BLACK POTTERY, ALEBRIJES AND STREET ART

South Valley (Xoxocotlan, San Bartolo and Tilcajete)

This tour is the most colorful and complete tours from our selection around Oaxaca. You will meet artists and sample excellent local food!

I meet you in Oaxaca centro 9am and drive you to the garden where we will have a nice breakfast surrounded by plants. "Villa Verde" is a cactus garden designed over 10 years gathering thousands of cactus and dozen of art creations designed with such talent. 

After another 20 minutes drive from the garden we will arrive at San Bartolo Coyotepec and the black pottery studio of the Fabian family. Rosa will show you how the clay is extracted and transformed to create stunning art pieces. The story of their family has influenced the life of this village!
 
San Martin Tilcajete will be our last stop of the day, where we will have lunch in the garden Palo que habla, delicious comida al comal of traditional dishes!
After lunch we will visit the village and enjoy colorfull street art all over the walls of the houses. The town is famous for the painted wooden sculptures "alebrijes" so we will learn about the techniques used meeting artists working in their studio.
