TEOTITLAN BIRDWATCHING AND VILLAGE TOUR

Teotitlan del Valle

We drive you through the eastern valley of Oaxaca to the lovely town of Teotitlan del Valle at about 40 minutes drive from Oaxaca centro.

We will first spend time by the dam north of the village and walk that area on the track of local endemics ( Bridled Sparrow, White Throated Towhee, Gray breasted Woodpecker, Dusky Hummingbird and so many more!). We will then have breakfast in town before heading to the house of Yolanda, Jacinto and their two daughters, passionate and dedicated in keeping the tradition through the generations. From raw sheep whool to colored threads and finally beautiful bright carpets, you will learn about the process of dying and weaving on traditional loom. After the demo you will get a chance to try it out by yourself guided by the expert.

Yolanda will prepare a delicious meal in her house for us. You cannot leave without falling in love with their beautiful rugs!

We will then visit the center of the village and the church and enjoy a stunning view from the roof.

Maritza and her family will be waiting for us with hot melted wax to show you how her and her family make candles and decorate them using wooden molds: up to 10kg candle for a wedding! She will explain the unique tradition of the village that family members have to bring to the weddings: beautiful!

MARTIN

We had an absolutely wonderful day with Margaux as she guided us through the Sierra Mountains. We walked from Teotitlán to the dam where Margaux pointed out gorgeous birds to us that we would never have otherwise seen. Her knowledge of plants and flowers was incredible. We visited a weaving family and had a delicious lunch. Everything about the day was magical and we would highly recommend this trip and anything Margaux leads. One of the best guided trips we have ever done.
