Immerse Yourself in Tradition: A Cultural Journey of Handicrafts and Ancestral Celebration

This unique experience offers a deep dive into the rich traditions of a village where families continue the time-honored practices of working with wax and looms to create stunning handicrafts.

On November 1st, the community pauses their daily routines to honor their ancestors. Starting at 3 PM, families open their doors to welcome the spirits of their forebears, keeping vigil for 24 hours without sleep. During this time, they nourish the altars with food, drinks, and heartfelt conversations. The entire community invites friends, family, and visitors to join in this beautiful tradition—sharing meals, stories, and a sense of connection that transcends generations.

Experience Highlights: A Journey into Local Traditions and Craftsmanship

A local family will welcome us to demonstrate their candle-making and decorating process using wooden molds. You'll see how they craft stunning candles as well as the cultural significance of these candles, especially for weddings and Día de Muertos.

A passionate family of weavers will prepare a delicious meal for us in their charming patio and invite us to join their family altar to honor ancestors with offerings and photographs. Josefina will then introduce us to their weaving tools and the art of natural dyeing.

ANGELA

Fantastic local experience!

I have done two tours with Margo and recommend her completely. We visited two different villages with local handicrafts, met the artists and learned about their processes. We sampled local food and had wonderful conversations about Oaxaca, art and food! Margo is thoughtful, smart and has great connections with wonderful artists. I true joy.
